How did I miss this ad campaign from French McDonald’s that’s been going on since the summer?  The “Come as you are” campaign is fairly disturbing to me.  There have been 3 ads, as far as I’ve seen, the most notorious of which I’m sharing first.  The promotion of McDonald’s as being a “family” place is certainly not new, although this particular ad doesn’t even really show any food.  It focuses, rather, on a relationship between a gay teen and his father…and although, of course, it’s a great thing for French McDonald’s to feature a gay teen in a commercial, the ad makes it seem as if it would be unacceptable for the son to come out to the father.  Is promoting hiding your sexuality from your family a healthy concept?  Why/how is McDonald’s using this to sell burgers??
